Welcome to Dottir knits, Icelandic knitting patterns

My name is Hildur and I am a knitting designer from Iceland. For the most of my adult life I have been travelling and living abroad with my family, living in two different continents and four different countries & even living full time on a sailboat for a few months. But my heart is still in Iceland. I often find my inspriation from Iceland and the Icelandic nature and culture.

I love knitted clothing that are both beautiful and practical. I hope you will enjoy my patterns and that you will find something that you like.

Icelandic mountains.

I decided to name each pattern after a mountain in Iceland. It’s been over a decade since we moved abroad, but the connection to the old rock is still strong.

We grew up with these mountains surrounding us, sheltering and terrifying us at the same time. They are the heart of Icelandic nature and scenery, and we miss them greatly.

The first series of patterns is an ode to them and the place they have in our hearts.
